Millions of South Africans who receive social grants are always eager to know when their upcoming payment dates are.
In this article, we provide a reminder of the payment dates for May 2023.
This information comes after the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) released the payment schedule for the 2023/24 financial year.
SASSA has reserved the first week of May for elderly, child, and disability grant payments.
After that, Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant recipients, and all other grants are paid out.
However, SRD recipients cannot collect their grants at South African Post Office branches.
SASSA also notes that there is no fixed payment date for the special COVID-19 SRD.
The payment dates for May 2023 are as follows:
- Older person payment date: 3 May 2023
- Disability grants payment date: 4 May 2023
- Children’s payment date: 5 May 2023
It is worth noting that once funds are made available, they do not have to be claimed straight away.
All monies owed to each client will stay in their accounts until an individual is ready to make a withdrawal.
This remains the case for all four aforementioned grants.
Impact of SAPO Liquidation on SASSA Grants
In other news, the South African Post Office (SAPO) has been placed under provisional liquidation.
However, SASSA spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi assured the public that there are contingency plans with the Post Office that SASSA is trying to put in place to ensure that beneficiaries do receive what is due to them.
He also mentioned that there is an engagement between SASSA and the Post Office, and that they are working towards a solution.
