Here’s the Schedule for Collecting Social Grants in June 2023
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has recently announced the payment schedule for social grants for the 2023/24 financial year.
This information will help beneficiaries plan when to collect their grants.
Below are the payment dates for June:
Elderly person grant payment date: 2 June 2023
Disability grants payment date: 5 June 2023
Children’s grant payment date: 6 June 2023
Note that there is no fixed payment date for the special COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant.
Payment Schedule for Elderly, Child, and Disability Grants
During the first week of each month, SASSA prioritizes the payment of grants for elderly individuals, children, and those with disabilities.
Once these funds are made available, beneficiaries don’t have to claim them immediately.
The money will remain in their accounts until they are ready to make a withdrawal.
This applies to all four types of grants mentioned.
Social Relief of Distress Grant and Other Grants
After the first week, the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant recipients will receive their payments, followed by the payment of all other grants.
All beneficiaries, except for SRD recipients, can still collect their grants at South African Post Office branches.
Extended Validity of Expired SASSA/Postbank Gold Cards
SASSA has extended the validity of expired SASSA/Postbank Gold Cards until 31 December 2023.
This decision was made in response to the concerns raised by grant holders whose cards were expiring.
Beneficiaries can continue to use their expired cards for social grants payment transactions, such as ATM withdrawals and merchant point of sale (POS) purchases, without the need to collect new cards or switch to other banks.
Choosing a Payment Channel of Choice
Beneficiaries with gold cards are assured by SASSA that they can receive their grants without any disruptions until the end of the year.
They also have the option to change their payment method if they prefer to receive their money at their personal banks.
The gold card can be used at any ATM or machine.
