The funeral of the Lily Savage star, Paul O’Grady, who died “unexpectedly but peacefully” at the age of 67 on 28 March, was held on 20 April.
It saw dogs from Battersea form a guard of honour in tribute to his extensive work with Battersea Dogs and Cats home.
A bake sale was also organised outside the Walnut Tree pub, with proceeds going to the charity.
The TV icon’s widow, Andre Portasio, revealed earlier in the week that the funeral procession would pass through Aldington before heading to the church “as a way of marking Paul’s affection for the area”.
Paul lived in Aldington, near Ashford, for over 20 years and was a well-known face in the village.
Mourners included a host of famous faces from the world of showbiz, who travelled across the country to pay their respects.
The funeral was a private ceremony, but residents were invited to stand on Forge Hill or New Road Hill to pay their respects, although Mr Portasio asked them to “respect the villagers and the local area.”
Paul O’Grady was a national treasure and a household name, known for his work in showbiz, particularly for hosting the chat show, “The Paul O’Grady Show.”
He was also known for his animal welfare activism and support for Battersea Dogs and Cats home.
His sudden passing came as a shock to many, and his funeral was a touching tribute to his life and legacy.
