Patients evacuated from London hospital after fire consume ground floor completely

A London hospital had to evacuate approximately 100 patients after a fire broke out on the ground floor, destroying one of the rooms completely.

The Accident and Emergency department at Croydon University Hospital had to evacuate its patients and staff following the incident. Patients who were well enough to go home were discharged, and the hospital’s A&E was closed.

However, the hospital management confirmed that all the patients and staff were safe and that they would reopen soon due to the fast work of the London Fire Brigade. If urgent or emergency care was required, patients were advised to contact 111.

The London Fire Brigade was called to the hospital at 3 pm following reports of a fire, and four engines were sent to tackle the blaze. The firefighters battled the fire for two hours, and by 5.07 pm, the fire was under control.

According to a spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade, the fire had destroyed one of the ground floor units in the hospital completely.
