‘Patience’… Mikel Arteta believes Gabriel Jesus will break Arsenal’s goal drought

After failing to score in Thursday’s 1-0 Europa League victory over FC Zurich, extending his goalless streak to eight games, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expressed confidence that Gabriel Jesus will soon regain his scoring touch.

Jesus has scored five goals in 17 games for Arsenal in all competitions after joining them in the offseason from Manchester City. His last goal came in a 3-1 Premier League victory over Tottenham Hotspur on October 1.

Jesus had a handful of chances to score against Zurich, but he was unable to convert, with Kieran Tierney’s 25-yard strike giving Arsenal the victory and the Group A lead.

Thursday, Arteta told reporters, “That’s going to change (his poor luck).”

“He’s getting the opportunities, he’s getting the situations, he’s providing a great deal to the club, he’s helping to win games, and his competition for every ball in every action is fantastic.

“It will come, he must be patient, he’s gone through this before, he must learn from his mistakes, and he must not stop doing the other things that he’s doing so well, because it will keep him and the team at a high level.”

On Sunday, leaders Arsenal will play sixth-place Chelsea in a league matchup.
