Partner of woman who was found dead at home in Sydney has been charged with murder

Anastasia Slastion, a woman in her 30s, had moved from Russia to Australia to start a new life before she was allegedly killed by her fiancé in a domestic violence dispute.

Her body was found inside a home on Brighton Street in Greystanes, Sydney’s west, at 12:50 am on Saturday. The accused, Isaac Costa, 28, has been charged with murder and appeared before the Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday, where he was refused bail.

Ms Slastion was originally from Latvia but had been living in St Petersburg, Russia, before she moved to Australia to work as a senior software engineer at EPAM Systems.

She had a passion for travel and had lived in Turkey before moving to Australia. In 2018, she posted a picturesque photo of the Sydney skyline as she embarked on the next chapter of her life.

Sadly, five years later, she would allegedly be murdered by her partner in their Greystanes home, leaving her family devastated and mourning her loss in Russia and Latvia.

The house where the incident occurred is believed to belong to Costa’s father, Clem, who is a successful landowner with several properties on the street.

After Costa was refused bail on Sunday, his father, Clem, voiced his support for him, saying, “We just wanna say we love him, and we’ll always be here to support you son.”

One neighbor revealed that Costa had introduced Ms Slastion as his fiancée to his friends at a local pub just four days before the incident.

Another neighbor reported being awakened by the sounds of screams early in the morning, followed by the arrival of the police. The police arrested Costa at the property and took him to Granville Police Station for questioning. After a brief interview, he was charged with murder on Saturday.

Domestic violence advocate Sharyn Brown expressed concern over the incident, revealing that 11 women had already fallen victim to domestic violence in 2023. Ms. Slastion’s tragic death serves as a reminder of the urgent need to address and prevent domestic violence in all its forms.
