In Hong Kong, the ex-husband, father-in-law and brother-in-law of model and influencer Abby Choi appeared in court on charges of her gruesome murder.

Choi, 28, was dismembered, with her legs discovered in a refrigerator and her skull and a number of her ribs found in a cooking pot. Alex Kwong, her ex-husband, his father Kwong Kau, and his brother Anthony Kwong were charged with her murder.

Alex Kwong’s mother, Jenny Li, also faces one count of perverting the course of justice. Police said Choi had financial disputes involving tens of millions of Hong Kong dollars with her ex-husband and his family.

Choi was a model and influencer who shared her glamorous life with more than 100,000 followers on Instagram. Her last post was over a week before her death, featuring a photoshoot she had done with L’Officiel Monaco.

Choi had four children, with two being with her current husband, Chris Tam, and two with Kwong. Tam said he was very thankful to have had Choi in his life and praised her for being supportive, according to a Facebook post by friend Pao Jo-yee.

Her current father-in-law is a founder of one of Hong Kong’s famous noodle chains, according to local newspaper The Standard. Choi’s dismembered body, including her legs in a refrigerator, was found in the house in Lung Mei Tsuen, a suburban part of Hong Kong, after she had been missing for several days. Police found a young woman’s skull, believed to be Choi’s, in one of the cooking pots.

Choi’s former partner, 31, was arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday. He was found on Tung Chung pier on Lantau Island, preparing to board a speedboat, with HK$500,000 (£50,000) in cash and several luxury watches worth HK$4 million (£400,000) in total.

According to Superintendent Alan Chung, tools used to dismember human bodies, including meat grinders, chainsaws, long raincoats, gloves, and masks, were found in the flat, which was arranged by ‘cold-blooded killers’ meticulously. Her case is one of the most shocking violent killings Hong Kong has seen since 2013. The hearing of the murder case was adjourned to May.
