Details of what made a Sydney woman pick up knife with the intention of attacking her boyfriend

A Sydney woman, Kristy Anne Wild, pleaded guilty to one count of being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence of assault in Burwood Local Court after being accused of stabbing her boyfriend inside their Cabarita home in September 2021.

A charge of reckless wounding was withdrawn by police. Wild was set to undergo a five-day hearing on Monday, but instead entered a plea.

The court heard that Wild, a registered nurse, allegedly endured a tumultuous two-year relationship marred by violence at the hands of her former partner Jamie Blewitt. Matters escalated during the 2021 Delta Covid-19 lockdown, with court documents detailing the hours before the attack.

On the evening of September 29, Wild and Mr Blewitt had been drinking before settling down to watch a movie, according to court documents. When Mr Blewitt could not move Wild to bed in the early hours of the following morning, the pair began having an argument and yelling insults at each other.

According to court documents, Mr Blewitt ‘suddenly grabbed’ Wild by the shoulders before twisting her leg. After he allegedly thrust a knife towards her saying, “I’ll do it, I’ll do it” with the intent to scare her, Wild picked up the knife and chased after him after he walked out of the house.

Mr Blewitt turned around and told her to “stab me then, go on,” court documents alleged. The police prosecutor opposed the non-conviction based on the seriousness of the offence, but Wild’s defence lawyer Rory Pettit asked the magistrate to consider not imposing a conviction as she had already spent 118 days in custody following her arrest in 2021.

Magistrate Gemma Slack-Smith said she accepted Wild was a victim of domestic violence and sentenced her to a community release order for 19 months with no conviction. A court order is in place preventing her from going near Mr Blewitt.
