The students at Alexandra High School who spilt a pot of food intended for schoolchildren have been suspended.
Steve Mabona, a spokesperson for the Gauteng Education Department, stated that the perpetrators were identified on Friday morning, 27 January 2023, utilizing CCTV footage from the school.
The disciplinary hearing for these students is planned for Tuesday, January 31, 2023.
Mabona stated, “An incident occurred at Alexandra High School on Thursday, January 26, 2023, in which students exhibited unacceptable behavior by discarding their lunches.”
“Unfortunately, video footage of this unfortunate incident has since gone viral and spawned numerous false reports,”

According to an official report to the department, students were required to line up according to their grade level in order to receive lunch.
“The learner’s favorite dish, uPhuthu and milk, was served for lunch. Due to their eagerness for the day’s supper, several students were irritated in the lines,” Mabona explained.
They allegedly began pushing and shoving other students, generating a commotion in the lines and disrupting the service of others. In the midst of this uproar, senior students reportedly seized the pot of food and carried it away
In the course of these discoveries, I grabbed the pot and threw it to the ground.
“The food intended for the benefit of other students was spilled, causing further disruption,” Mabona claimed.
In the interim, the department registered a new satellite school for the 176 pupils in Tshwane who are currently awaiting placements.
About 176 Grade 8 students from the Tshwane West District are awaiting placement in a new satellite school in Pretoria North, according to Mabona.
The department worked diligently to improve capacity in high-demand areas to ensure that all students were appropriately placed.
North Park Secondary School, the new satellite school, will welcome its first students on Monday, February 6, 2023.
