A car park attendant’s refusal to let a woman leave a car park without payment caused a huge backlog of angry drivers in the Circle on Cavill shopping centre car park in Surfer’s Paradise, Queensland.

Video of the incident went viral, with many people siding with the female driver and calling for the attendant to be sacked.

The company which runs the car park, Care Park, has issued a grovelling apology and admitted that a head office blunder caused the incident.

The driver’s pass had been deactivated accidentally, and Care Park has apologised to her and all the other drivers affected by the delay.

During the incident, frustrated drivers were trapped for over half an hour, unable to reverse because dozens of cars were banked up behind them.

The attendant insisted that the woman pay the amount on the screen to exit and refused to open the boom gate, causing the backlog of cars.

Care Park has not commented on whether the attendant has been disciplined or sacked.

The situation was recorded and released on TikTok, and the company has taken urgent action to improve customer service processes in the future.

Care Park has acknowledged that it could have handled the situation better and implemented better car park management tools to avoid a similar situation.

The company stresses that customer service training is a priority for its staff.
