Instagram is offering additional parental control features for teens’ accounts in the United Kingdom.

Parents will be able to manage their children’s profiles, set daily usage limits, and monitor who they follow and who follows them with the new features.

The tools, which were first introduced in March in the United States, are now being made available in the United Kingdom and Ireland for the first time.

With the new capabilities, parents will be able to issue an invitation to their teen to commence account monitoring, and if accepted, they will be able to establish daily restrictions for how long their child can spend on the app and plan breaks for particular periods.

Parents can also view who their child follows and is followed by, as well as receive notifications when their adolescent reports an account or post on the network.

A parent can also be invited to supervise a child’s account.

Parents will also be able to access a dashboard that displays their child’s daily habits on the platform.

When a child reaches the age of 18, the parental supervision features are turned off automatically, according to Instagram.

The launch will coincide with the launch of a new ‘nudges’ feature in the UK and Ireland, which will send users a notification encouraging them to switch to a different topic on the platform if they are repeatedly viewing the same sort of content on the Explore tab of the app.

According to Instagram, ‘nudges can be beneficial for helping individuals – especially kids – be more attentive of how they’re using social media in the time,’ according to study.
