Orlando Pirates would be in action on Saturday at Nedbank Cup

Orlando Pirates are set to face off against Venda Football Academy in the Nedbank Cup Round of 16 at Orlando Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Buccaneers, who are vying for their ninth title in the competition, are up against a lower league side for the second time in this year’s tournament.

Orlando Pirates come into the match having won three out of their last five games across all competitions, including their 2-0 victory over All Stars in the Round of 32.

Their recent 4-1 rout of rivals Swallows in an away league fixture will also serve to boost their confidence going into the Nedbank Cup clash.

Venda Football Academy, on the other hand, managed to secure a league point in their last outing against the University of Pretoria and will be hoping to replicate the tournament’s historic giant-killing feats.

They advanced to the Round of 16 after beating third tier outfit FC BlackCross, but have since only managed one win in their last five games.

Orlando Pirates will be without skipper Innocent Maela due to suspension, but Nkosinathi Sibisi is eligible for selection after missing the game against Swallows.

The team will also welcome back goalkeeper Richard Ofori, who has returned to full training after an injury layoff.

Players to watch for Venda Football Academy include Rhulani Manzini, who has scored seven goals this year alone, and midfield talent Athini Jodwana, while goalkeeper Harold Ndlovu is a solid presence in goal.

This will be the first competitive meeting between the two sides, and the match will kick off at 20:00 and will be televised live on SuperSport PSL.

Tickets can be purchased online or at selected retail outlets, as well as at the Orlando East Community Hall on the day of the match.
