One person has been killed and another left with serious injuries in an accident on the M4 Durban bound near the Victoria Embankment just after 5am on Sunday morning

Just after 5 a.m. on Sunday, a collision on the M4 near the Victoria Embankment in Durban resulted in the death of one person and serious injury to another.

A single vehicle had lost control and crashed head-on into the concrete barrier when ALS Paramedics Medical Services arrived on the scene, leaving complete carnage in its wake.

The driver, a man in his forties, suffered serious wounds and became terribly stuck in the debris.

The victim was swiftly examined, but there was nothing more paramedics could do for him, and he was declared dead at the site before the body was extracted from the debris using the jaws of life and other hydraulic instruments.

A passenger from the car suffered severe injuries, which Advanced Life Support Paramedics stabilized on the scene before rushing him to a local Durban hospital for the additional care he needed.

Although the circumstances leading up to the accident are now unknown, SAPS responded to the scene.
