Official! Joburg thinks Kaizer Chiefs are trash

Monday, in a rare moment of insanity, the City of Johannesburg tweeted a dumb jab against Kaizer Chiefs.

The City of Joburg tweeted, “Now that we’ve recovered from the weekend that was, remember to throw your trash in the bin,” accompanied by an image of a piece of Kaizer Chiefs fan attire jutting out of a trash can. The Kaizer Chiefs logo could be seen plainly.

The timing of the tweet is particularly peculiar, given that Chiefs defeated Orlando Pirates 1-0 at FNB Stadium in the Soweto Derby over the weekend. The victory moved the AmaKhosi ahead of the Buccaneers in the Premiership table to fourth place; hence, the contempt hurled at them by the City of Johannesburg is illogical.

The Kaizer Chiefs Twitter account answered appropriately: “Disappointing…we are a part of the City of Johannesburg…”

Instead of apologizing for their post, City of Joburg said, “Lighten up!” Numerous winners. You make Joburg great!

For the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic, the Soweto Derby welcomed supporters back to the Calabash in Johannesburg in front of a crowded FNB Stadium. Yusuf Maart scored an incredible goal from within his own half in the middle of the second half to seal the victory for Chiefs, despite the fact that the Chiefs had controlled the game by all accounts.

Monday morning, the City of Johannesburg displayed a severe lack of tact and understanding in its pursuit of clicks, demonstrating that it was unimpressed by its victory.
