Shuttle bus driver in Port Douglas rants at tourists

The driver of a shuttle bus unleashed a foul-mouthed tirade towards a customer who complained that the bus was late.

Last week, images of the driver’s tirade at Port Douglas, far north Queensland, went viral on social media.

The video showed the driver bursting with rage as a passenger complained about the 45-minute wait.

The customer is heard stating, “Don’t tell us 20 minutes when it’s 45,” followed by the driver yelling, “I don’t know what it f****** is.”

The passenger then stated, “It’s quite straightforward,” after which the bus driver yelled back and complained about his work.

He said, “No, it’s not f***** simple, you have no f***** idea, and this is the hardest f***** job in Port Douglas.”

The passenger apologized to the driver and patted him on the shoulder, but the driver continued to yell and scream while squeezing his arm in anger.

“Would you like to spend one day on this f****** bus, when you receive a phone call every three f****** minutes and everyone wants to know the f****** time?”

The situation deteriorated when the driver said, “Where do you want to go?” and a passenger responded, “to the surf club.”

The driver cried back, “What to go and get?” before someone replied that they were headed there for dinner.

The driver yelled, “And that’s your f****** hurry?” before the passenger began to dispute with him.

It is unknown whether the driver was penalized by his employer.

It is true that anything in Australia can kill you, including our shuttle drivers, as stated in the caption of the video.

This week, though, social media critics criticized the message.

Which business?? ‘Naming and shaming this company is not what we want our guests to experience,’ stated one.

Another said, “Bro believes bus driving is the worst job in Queensland.”

One social media user, though, expressed pity for the driver, writing, “funny but completely understandable, poor man.”

The tirade occurs at a time when the tropical resort town is under pressure due to a post-Covid increase in tourists despite chronic personnel shortages in the tourism and hospitality business.

Unaffiliated with the driver in the video, a Port Douglas tour operator told the Cairns Post that drivers in the city have been under pressure.

Everyone is short on personnel. Many drivers are working overtime, increasing the pressure on everyone,’ he said.

The majority of restaurants are also suffering, as they are now only open four days per week as opposed to seven.

It is causing a moderate amount of stress everywhere.

Since the start of the pandemic, the beach resort town has had its largest influx of tourists this year.
