No Admissions Cancelled by JAMB

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, declared yesterday that no admissions to universities, polytechnics, or institutions of education had been halted or postponed as a result of ASUU’s prolonged strike.

Professor Ishaq Oloyede, Registrar/Chief Executive of JAMB, said this prior to opening the National Executive Council, NEC, meeting of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU, in Abuja.

Prof. Oloyede, among others, has declared, “It is the schools’ responsibility to admit pupils.” JAMB is a coordinating center. JAMB cannot and will not determine an institution’s academic calendar. You are aware that academic institutions are still in the 2020/21 academic year. Some are registered for the academic year 2021/2022, while others are enrolled for the academic year 2022/2023. There are now three academic periods in session at universities around the nation. I advise candidates to contact their respective universities to see which session is current.

“No session or university’s admissions have been canceled until the institution’s senate declares so.” All admissions for these three sessions have not and will not expire; it is now up to the universities to determine how to continue.
