Direct Entry Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB)

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that the 2023 JAMB Direct Entry Registration will begin on Monday, February 20, and end on Thursday, April 20, 2023.

JAMB Direct Entry is mostly for people who already have a degree/diploma/a-level certificates and wish to enroll in a university degree program. Those who win entrance to a university via direct entry will typically begin their studies at the part 2 or 200 level, if they were awarded admission.

Before proceeding, please verify the following:

JAMB Direct Entry Eligibility

  • Candidates with one of the following credentials may be considered for Direct Entry admission:
  • A minimum O-level credit pass in five (5) SSSC topics at no more than two sittings, including at least two specified subjects at the Principal or Advanced level for each programme (course of study).
  • Two passes [in prescribed subjects for each (programme) course of study] on the A’Level Examination administered by IJMB, Cambridge, JUPEB, or the Institute of Baccalaureate, along with three additional credit passes on the SSCE.
  • Credit passes in two major topics of the NCE and three other credit passes in SSSC, NTC/NBC (mostly for Education/Technical programmes) are required.
  • Minimum grade of credit in University/National Diploma or National Innovation Diploma in addition to the required O-levels. All submitted Advanced Level Qualifications will be validated by a special committee, and any fraudulent results will result in legal action.

DE CANDIDATES MUST PROVIDE THEIR JAMB REGISTRATION NUMBERS USED FOR ADMISSION TO NCE/NID/DIPLOMA AND PREVIOUS DEGREE PROGRAMS.

REGISTRATION FOR DE CANDIDATES MAY NOT BE EXTENDED PAST THE TIME ALLOWED FOR BOTH UTME AND DE.

Candidates should not submit UTME and DE applications at the same time. IF A CANDIDATE APPLIES VIA UTME AND LATER RECEIVES DE QUALIFICATION, THE UTME MAY BE UPGRADED TO DE FREE OF CHARGE. Obtaining two application documents in the same calendar year is a sanctionable violation. Dual or duplicate registrations are grounds for immediate revocation and prosecution.

How to Apply for 2023 JAMB Direct Entry

Candidates must be aware that ePINS are tied to a specific profile and cannot be shared.
Candidates are strongly encouraged to maintain their security information, including registration numbers, passwords/ATM card numbers, email addresses, and ePINs, as private and confidential as possible.

  • A. PROFILE REGISTRATION
  • Registration would need the usage of a unique phone (mobile) number (SIM) for each candidate. The unique phone number can only be used by one candidate (Note: This number (SIM) serves as your unique identifier for all board-related transactions.
  • The candidate will send his/her National Identification Number (NIN) through text message (SMS) to 55019 or 66019 from his/her personal GSM number e.g. write the term “NIN” followed by a space and the 11-digit NIN Number and send to 55019 or 66019 in this format (NIN 00123456789). There should be a gap between “NIN” and your 11-digit Social Security number.
  • (Note that the number must not have been previously used to register for UTME/DE by another individual.)
    The candidate receives a 10-character Profile Code on the same telephone(SIM) number.
  • The phone number associated with the text message is automatically associated with the candidate’s 2023 application, Examination, and Admission. CANDIDATES SHOULD NOTE AND ALWAYS REMEMBER THE SIM NUMBER USED, AS IT IS ESSENTIAL FOR FURTHER COMMUNICATION WITH THE BOARD BY OBTAINING UTME/DE APPLICATION DOCUMENTS.
  • The candidate presents the profile code at the moment of form acquisition (Banks, MMOs, MFBs, Switches, USSD Partners). The form- ePIN is then texted to the candidate’s mobile phone number.
  • Candidate gives the ePIN at any JAMB-approved CBT Center to register.
  • The application cannot be processed until the candidate’s biometric information (all ten fingers) and photos are physically collected (No submission of passport photograph). A candidate will be able to print his/her e-registration slip if biometrics and a photograph are successfully captured. The candidate’s fingerprint will be required for all future interactions with JAMB regarding their profile.
  • On the day of the examination, only applicants whose biometrics verification is successful will be permitted to take the UTME. No parent or proxy is permitted to do any activity on a candidate’s profile.
  • Candidates with biometric difficulties can register only at the JAMB headquarters in Abuja.
  • B. SELF-HELP IN CASE OF ERROR/PROFILE LOSS CODE
  • Send [RESEND] to 55019 or 66019 as a text message from the same mobile number to retrieve a lost Profile Code.
    Sending [password] space [email address] to 55019 from the candidate’s registered cellphone number will reset a forgotten or lost Profile Password.
  • (FREE COMPLAINT) ADMISSION:
  • For ALL issues regarding JAMB processes, applicants can submit a support ticket at (support.jamb.gov.ng) using their registered email address. The candidate then supplies his or her name, phone number, and the nature of the issue, selects a complaint region from a drop-down menu, and summarizes the nature of the issue.
  • Additionally, he or she may attach supporting documents (if available) and then send. Third-party complaints are only recorded. The writing of letters is not encouraged. Instead, all concerns should be sent through a ticketing system for fast handling and documentation.
  • For NIN-related complaints (e.g., if a candidate sends a message to 55019 or 66019 to create a profile but does not receive a response or receives incorrect data, he/she can follow the same procedure on the ticketing system by clicking on 2023 NIN-related issues and selecting the relevant topic from the drop-down menu).
  • NOTE THAT YOU SHOULD NOT SHARE YOUR PASSWORD WITH ANYONE. JAMB is only able to assist with PROFILE-PASSWORDS and not E-MAIL-BOX-PASSWORDS. YOU MAY ALSO CHECK YOUR ADMISSION STATUS THROUGH THE JAMB IBASS APP ON YOUR MOBILE DEVICE. DO NOT VISIT ANY CYBER CAFE THAT REQUIRES YOUR PASSWORD, WHICH WILL THEN BE USED TO THEFT YOUR RECORDS. “TO BE WARNED IS TO BE APprehensive”
  • Candidates and the general public should be aware that no one can assist with admission or score enhancement; those who encourage fraudsters will only be duped and defrauded.
  • C. JAMB ePIN SELLING POINTS The ePIN distributors are: NIPOST, Banks, MMOs, MFBs, and other financial institutions participating.
  • Candidates with e-wallets can purchase e-pins from banks or vending machines.

  • F. HOW TO RECOVER LOST ePIN AFTER PAYMENT

  • The ePIN would then be retrieved and transmitted to the unique number of the candidate.

  • G. PROCESS OF REGISTRATION AT CBT CENTERS:
  • The candidate must provide the ePIN at any JAMB-accredited CBT Center in order to complete registration. On entry of the e-PIN by the CBT center, the candidate’s name, as inputted by the candidate on his/her phone while registering the profile, appears automatically.
  • Candidates should:
  • Include Date of Birth, Nationality, State of Origin, Local Government, Gender, and Email Address in your biodata.
    Provide options for institutions and courses (disciplines)
    Provide qualification with grades and dates, if outcome is not awaited.
  • Candidates must upload necessary certificates and submit O/L and/or A/L grades if they are not expecting results. Candidates who are expecting results must submit them online as soon as they are accessible on the JAMB website.
  • JAMB will not recognize recommendations from any institution if the candidate has not submitted his or her results on the JAMB website.
  • Provide JAMB registration number for previous academic certificates only for DE
