Nevada medical flight crash claimed the life of a new father and other patients

A mercy flight carrying five individuals, including a patient and a new father who was a medic, crashed in a mountainous region of Nevada on Friday night in bad weather conditions, resulting in the deaths of all on board. The fixed-wing Care Flight aircraft disappeared from flight radar near Stagecoach at around 9:45 p.m., shortly after Lyon County Sheriff dispatchers were alerted to a possible plane crash.

It took rescue teams roughly 90 minutes to locate the downed aircraft in the small community situated about 45 miles southeast of Reno. The victims were a pilot, a flight nurse, a flight paramedic, a patient, and a family member of the patient, according to a statement by the medical flight service operator, REMSA Health.

Although officials have not yet disclosed the names of the deceased, the family of Ryan Watson, the new father, identified him as the flight paramedic who died in the crash. Heavy snow was anticipated on the night of the accident, with wind gusts of up to 65 mph and periods of whiteout conditions. The cause of the accident is still being investigated.
