Mystic Meg’s Legacy

The Sun has reported that Margaret Lake, better known as Mystic Meg, has passed away at the age of 80 after a brief illness.

Meg was a well-known astrologer who had a regular astrology column in The Sun and News of the World, and also hosted Mystic Meg’s Wheel of Destiny.

She gained national attention when she became a regular on the National Lottery draw in 1994. Meg’s agent, Dave Shapland, has described her as “Britain’s most famous astrologer by a million miles.”

Margaret, who was of Romany descent, was born on July 27th, 1942, and grew up in Accrington, Lancashire. Her grandmother taught her astrology, which led to her becoming a sub-editor at the News of the World and eventually the paper’s regular astrologer under the name Eileen Anderson.

She later changed her name to Mystic Meg and became a household name in the UK.

Meg’s weekly predictions for the National Lottery draw, as well as her annual predictions for the News of the World, were popular features that gained her many loyal fans.

She also appeared on various astrology-related books and merchandise, and even owned a number of racehorses with celestial names.

In April 2015, Meg partnered with bookmaker Gala Coral Group to be the face of their Grand National “You’re Guaranteed a Fortune” marketing campaign, featuring images of Meg and her crystal ball in all of Coral’s 1,850 shops.

She also launched a website in 2015, offering horoscopes, personalised readings, and a telephone hotline hosted by a selection of her favourite professional psychics.

Meg’s legacy as one of the UK’s most famous astrologers is undeniable, with her name becoming part of the English language as a reference for anyone who is asked a tricky question.

Her contributions to the world of astrology and her loyal fanbase will not be forgotten.
