MultiChoice Group won 54 of the 16 Saftas

The sixteenth annual South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas) were presented in a virtual show on Saturday evening.

Prior to the start of the actual awards event, and indeed during the show, Lasizwe’s remarkable appearance was the buzz of social media.

This year’s major awards presentation, themed “Frame the Future,” was presented by broadcaster Khutso Theledi, comedian and TV personality Mpho Popps, and actor and TV host Ryle De Morny.

The MultiChoice Group won a total of 54 prizes throughout the Craft Show, which took place on Friday and was webcast on the Saftas YouTube website, and Saturday’s main event, which aired on Mzansi Magic and S3.

These victories were Best TV Soap for “Suidooster” on kykNET, Best Telenovela for “DiepCity” on Mzansi Magic, Best Achievement In Directing – TV Soap for “Binnelanders,” and Best Achievement In Scriptwriting – Telenovela for “Legacy.”

The broadcasting giant’s streaming platform, Showmax, won 17 awards for programs like “Tali’s Baby Diary,” “The Wife,” and “Dam.”

The SABC, on the other hand, won nine awards, including “Best Competition Reality Show” for SABC 2’s hit reality show “Taste Masters SA” and “Best Variety Show” for SABC 1’s “The Braai Show with Cassper.”

Popular streaming service Netflix won seven prizes in various categories for its two feature films, “I Am All Girls” and “Angeliena,” and its second season of the successful television comedy “How To Ruin Christmas.”

The people chose Thembisa Mdoda-Nxumalo “Best TV Presenter” for her spectacular performance as the anchor of “Old Mutual’s Amazing Voices,” while “DiepCity” was voted “Most Popular TV Soap/Telenovela.”

This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to the iconic Mme Connie Chiume in recognition of her 45 years of contribution to the film industry.

Thoko Ntshiga, Thembi Mtshali, and Lydia Mokgokoloshi are among the former Lifetime Achievers that Mme Chiume joins.

Zo Modiga, Goodluck, Samthing Soweto, Langa Mavuso, Jesse Clegg, and Hush SA delivered great performances during both the craft fair and the main show.
