Based only on the hosts, the 16th annual South African Film & Television Awards (Saftas) are expected to be a star-studded event.
To offer viewers at home all the glamour and glam of the two-day event, only the best in SA entertainment have been chosen.
The Saftas revealed that a fresh crop of rookies and established personalities that represent the future of SA talent would be leading the festivities in line with the theme, “Frame the Future.”
Prepare to be dazzled and entertained by individuals like the multi-talented radio and TV personalities Smash Afrika and Candice Modiselle, media personality Khutso Theledi, comedian and TV personality Mpho Popps, and last but not least actor, TV presenter, and GQ’s best-dressed breakout star Ryle De Morny who will anchor the main night as the official “Saftas Main Awards Show” hosts on Saturday, September 3 at 7pm on Mzansi

On Saturday, September 3, at 6.30 p.m., the Saftas will be televised on S3 and live streamed on the Saftas YouTube Channel.
The annual celebration of excellence in South Africa’s film and television industry honours, recognises, and fosters the growth of fresh talent while nurturing a generation of filmmakers who are dedicated to delivering genuine South African tales.
There were 426 submissions this year in total, but only 24 nominations were made, which were revealed in July.
The “Craft Awards” programme, which honours achievement within the industry’s technological sector, kicks off the festivities a day before the main event.
At 7 o’clock, this event will also be broadcast live on the Saftas YouTube account.
The choice to host the event virtually was decided when the bid for contract was sent out to production firms to organise the Saftas16 awards ceremony, according to Saftas executive producer Anneke de Ridder.
“At the time, SA was still under lockdown, and the requirements for the bid were in accordance with Saftas15: no public event.
We had to continue holding the event remotely because government entities are constrained in their ability to alter the merits of a procurement offer.
“While we realise that a celebration with the industry in person would have been ideal, our production firm worked really hard to give industry practitioners the respect they deserve.
“Saftas17 plans, however, are already in motion, and we surely will return with a live celebration of the finest in the business.”
