According to a former friend of Meghan Markle, the actress and Prince Harry were unprepared for their lower status in the Hollywood social hierarchy after relocating to California.
TV presenter Nick Ede, who claims to have been friends with Markle before she started dating Prince Harry, believes that the couple thought they would be considered “Hollywood royalty” but have realized that they are not as high up in the pecking order as they had hoped.
Ede explains that Hollywood’s idea of royalty is different from that of the royal family and is more aligned with stars like Beyoncé, the Kardashians, and Jennifer Lopez.
Ede also suggests that Harry and Meghan underestimated the value of being a former US president, citing the Obamas and Clintons as examples of people who are still seen as top dogs in Hollywood.
Ede notes that he met Markle in 2013 and that she was a “really nice” person during their three-year friendship. The Sussexes famously stepped down as senior members of the royal family in 2021 and have since taken on high-profile projects, including a Netflix documentary and Harry’s upcoming memoir.
Meanwhile, Prince Andrew is said to be considering a move to the US, although he will not be pursuing similar projects to Harry’s.
