MEC calls the assault on Tsakane clinic personnel barbaric and obscene

Gauteng health minister Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko characterized the assault on healthcare staff at a municipal clinic in Tsakane, Ekurhuleni, as brutal and obscene.

This comes after a video of a disgruntled member of the public allegedly urinating on Calcot Dlephu Clinic employees having lunch went viral.

According to reports, the event occurred on Friday of last week.

“Regardless of the nature of the public member’s complaint against the health care personnel, this cannot justify the attack on them. Nkomo-Ralehoko stated, “It is uncalled for, and we condemn this obscene act in the strongest possible terms.”

She noted that aggression and insults will never be tolerated because there are response mechanisms in place, such as the ability to escalate complaints and allegations to quality assurance personnel or the facility manager at the relevant service point.

“I urge communities to collaborate with us to stop the assaults on healthcare personnel. Nkomo-Ralehoko stated that her organization was committed to enhancing the patient experience in healthcare facilities.

She said further that she has instructed the department to investigate and determine the incident’s details in order to consider further action.
