Maponyane predicts Sundowns will defeat Pirates like Chiefs

Thousands of Orlando Pirates fans are likely terrified of facing Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Sea Robbers had no choice but to face the Sundowns, who have won their last 14 consecutive games.

Saturday will be the third meeting between these two teams in Soweto, after Kabo Yellow defeated them 4-1 in the Carling Black Label Cup and 2-0 in the league in December.

Former Buccaneer Maponyane believes that Rhulani Mokwena’s team will be too strong for the Soweto giants.

“Orlando Pirates will need an extraordinary effort to defeat Mamelodi Sundowns,” Maponyane told FARPost.

“I’ve heard that Pirates have been in good form and can beat Sundowns, but I disagree.

“Sundowns will defeat the Pirates similarly to how they defeated Kaizer Chiefs a few weeks ago.”

“The quality of the Sundowns team is unrivaled, which is why I said it would take something extraordinary to defeat them.”

“It’s not a fluke that they’ve been performing so well; winning 14 consecutive games says a lot about the team.”

“I am aware that [Thembinkosi] Lorch and [Olisa] Ndah may return for this match, but I doubt it will make a significant difference,” concluded the former Chiefs attacker.
