Man sets NYC Bangladeshi restaurant on FIRE

After allegedly getting his order incorrect and setting fire to the restaurant, a man from New York was detained.

Early on Sunday morning, October 2, Choephel Norbu, 49, set fire to the Ittadi Garden and Grill.

A man, identified as Norbu, is shown in a video provided by the New York Fire Department waiting outside the restaurant in the pitch black.

The man is all in black, and he is holding an unidentified object in a plastic bag. He pauses for a few seconds, before stooping to take the bucket next to him.

According to court documents acquired by the New York Post, Norbu told police that the Bangladeshi restaurant’s bungled order was what started the entire thing off.

I was really inebriated. The chicken biryani I purchased. I was not given any chicken biryani. Regarding his order from October 1, Norbu remarked, “I got upset and I tossed it away.”

He admitted to the police that he thinks the restaurant served him the incorrect food.

“I purchased a gas can and tried to burn it out by throwing it at the business.” The man, who is accused of scurrying away from the scene with his shoes on fire, said that after lighting it up, it “got on me.”

He can be seen picking up the bucket and throwing its contents through the holes of the restaurant’s gates in a CCTV video that was recorded outside.

As the restaurant was closing for the evening, the man threw the beverage against the glass, and it can be seen spilling back at him.

The man leans down to provide protection from the wind after reaching into his pocket to take out what looks to be a match or a lighter.

Furthermore, the bulk of the liquid had fallen to the ground, suggesting that the man’s intention was to ignite the most highly combustible section.

In his effort, the man sets off a massive fire that spreads to the ground, the storefront, and himself.

The man is seen being blown back from the flame in the footage, and he is then seen running away on foot.

After Norbu departs, the fire is still burning, largely on the ground.

A passerby can be seen running in to try to put out the fire in the last few seconds.

On Monday, the FDNY shared the footage on social media along with the charges that the prosecution had filed against Norbu.

The arrest of Choephel Norbu, which took place on Friday, October 14, 2022, was revealed today by acting fire commissioner Laura Kavanagh, according to FDNY.

‘Norbu, 49, was detained by fire marshals, explosion detectives, and arson investigators for purposefully setting fire to a business eatery at 73-07 37 Road in Queens on October 2, 2022. Norbu is accused with one case of arson, two counts of criminal mischief, and one count of reckless endangerment, all of which are felonies.

Officials from the NYPD verified to DailyMail.com that the fire department was responsible for the case because of the nature of the occurrence.

However, according to accounts, Norbu was freed under monitoring just a few days after being detained.

According to reports, Norbu’s was freed without having to make a bond.

Police said, “He sets a business on fire, he planned this, why is he out the following day?” according to The New York Post.

A restaurant official who talked with DailyMail.com stated that no one was inside at the time of the incident and that the damage was small.

Ittadi Garden and Grill’s spokesman Fatema Rahmi said she was uncertain if the business’s owners intended to file charges against the man.

Rahmi said that the majority of the harm was cosmetic and mostly affected the restaurant’s windows.

Fire Marshals were appointed to the case to investigate after the occurrence and started working right away.

Almost two weeks after the arson, Norbu was peacefully taken into custody.

He qualified for the tightest kind of release due to his accusations of criminal mischief and arson, which a court approved on October 15 during arraignment hearings.

The next court appearance for Norbu is scheduled on December 18 in Queens.
