Man becomes the only passenger on a Jet2 flight

Paul Wilkinson, a 65-year-old project manager from St Annes, Lancashire, received the VIP treatment while travelling from Faro, Portugal to Belfast, Northern Ireland.

On 30 March, 2022, Paul turned up at the airport gate to find no other passengers for his Jet2 flight.

Initially panicked, he was quickly informed by airport staff that he was the only passenger booked on the flight.

VIP treatment onboard

Paul hopped onto a double shuttle bus alone and was able to select any seat on the plane to sit in.

He then claims he was treated like royalty by the flight attendants who nicknamed him ‘King Paul’ for the duration of his journey.

The lucky holidaymaker was able to stretch out on the front row and even chatted to the captain before the flight took off.

Memorable experience

Paul had paid just £130 for his three-hour flight and says all three cabin crew were at his ‘beck and call’.

Plus, he got to sail right through passport control and the luggage carousels.

Paul stated that the service was second to none and that they did a one-on-one safety demonstration, took photographs, and even gave him a refund for the seat he paid for.

Paul claimed that it was a surreal and memorable experience.

Jet2’s response

A Jet2 spokesperson stated that they were delighted that Mr Wilkinson was able to experience their award-winning customer service in true VIP style.

They also said that their outbound flight to Faro from Belfast International was particularly busy with lots of happy holidaymakers heading off to the Portuguese sunshine.

Paul’s thoughts

Paul thinks that it was a total one-off experience.

He explained that Jet2 had taken holidaymakers to Portugal and there was no one to come back, so he was lucky that he needed to go to Belfast.

The airport officials at passport control couldn’t believe he was the only one coming off the plane, and three of them did his passport.

One checked and one stamped, and they all did it in good spirit.
