Lizzo’s ‘About Damn Time’ wins the Grammy for Record of the Year

Lizzo won the Grammy for Record of the Year for her track “About Damn Time” on Sunday, beating out Beyonce and Adele in a crowded field.

Lizzo, who was widely predicted to be the big winner in 2020 but lost all of her chances at a major award to pop phenomenon Billie Eilish, is making something of a comeback.

She dedicated the award to the late musical icon Prince, who was also her longtime inspiration and with whom she collaborated.

In a speech that moved the audience to its feet, she remarked through tears, “We are naturally good.” “And anyone at home who, like me, feels misunderstood or on the outside looking in, just be yourself.”

“I guarantee that you will find and attract individuals who believe in you and offer you support.”

Lizzo rose to prominence in 2019, attracting millions of devoted followers with her passionate self-love anthems, zesty raps, and the occasional twerk.

Melissa Viviane Jefferson, born in 1983, started in 2013, but did not attain national recognition until the release of her third studio album “Cuz I Love You” in 2016.

This month, the artist will go on a worldwide tour in support of his latest 12-track album, “Special.”

The Detroit-born, Houston-raised musician with a powerful voice acquired a taste for hip-hop as a preteen, but initially desired to become a flutist.

She moved to Minneapolis in 2011, a career-altering move that led her to meet Prince, the darling son of the Midwest, who co-signed her to work alongside him.

Lizzo extended a particular thank you to Queen Bey after her speech: “You changed my life,” she added as they both shed a tear.
