In spite of the lawsuit that three former backup dancers have filed against her, Lizzo has declared that she is back in the studio.
Three former Big Grrrls members have accused Lizzo, whose actual name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment. Lizzo has angrily rejected the accusations.
This month, a lawsuit was brought by Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez against Lizzo and her production firm, Big Grrrl Big Touring (BGBT).
The three said, among other things, that they had experienced assault, racial, religious, and handicap discrimination, as well as sexual harassment.
The singer now seems to shrug off the scandal in video footage that MailOnline has acquired by stating that she is “doing good” and teasingly stating that she is “in the studio right now.”
The Big Grrrls and The Big Boiiis dance groups’ other members have commended the 35-year-old for “shattering limitations” and “breaking barriers” in the wake of the singer’s lawsuit from three former dancers.
The Big Grrrls congratulated Lizzo for establishing “a platform where we have been able to parallel our passion with a purpose” in an open letter posted on her Instagram page last Thursday. They also spoke about their experience on her most recent tour, The Special Tour.
In the wake of the furore, they wrote in part: “You have created a platform where we have been able to parallel our passion with a purpose! Not only for us, but for women and all people breaking barriers.
“Our combined offerings have really fueled the kind of love, support, and energy that may medically aid in the healing of the globe. We are a unicorn-like group that is very tough and unique in every way.
Earlier this month, the musician broke her silence on the allegations with an Instagram post saying the last few days had been “gut-wrenchingly difficult” and said she would “not let the good work I’ve done in the world be overshadowed by this”.
With plus-sized musicians she hires via her reality programme, Watch Out For The Big Grrrls, the Grammy-winning US singer is recognised for her support of body acceptance and diversity in her music.
The dancers said in their lawsuit that Lizzo had called attention to Ms. Davis’ weight increase, reprimanded her, and then fired her “on the spot” after she had recorded a meeting due to a medical problem.
A portion of the complaint, which the PA news agency was able to access, described a trip to Amsterdam’s red light district in February 2023, when it was claimed that performers were under pressure to go along on evenings out out of fear of losing their employment.
Lizzo reportedly urged performers to touch naked performers during a trip to the club Bananenbar.
