Saturday’s 1-0 victory by Nottingham Forest over Liverpool, scored by Taiwo Awoniyi in the second half, lifted the Midlands team off the bottom of the Premier League standings.
Liverpool, who were seeking a third successive league victory, had little to complain about as Forest produced an outstanding effort to claim their second victory of the season.
In the first half, a disciplined Forest team put Juergen Klopp’s squad out of rhythm, causing them to fall behind.
Awoniyi put Forest ahead in the 55th minute when he snatched a rebound after his initial shot hit the post.
The hosts were threatening on the counterattack and had multiple opportunities to gain breathing room.
However, they were indebted to goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who made a number of stops, the greatest of which came in stoppage time when he miraculously blocked Virgil van Dijk’s spectacular close-range header off a corner.
