LASUBEB partners with LASPEMA to sanitise setbacks and incidental open places in Public Primary Schools

The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) to collaborate with the Lagos State Planning and Environmental Monitoring Agency (LASPEMA) to sanitise setbacks and incidental open spaces in Public Primary Schools in order to maintain a secure learning environment.

Mr. Wahab Alawiye-King, Executive Chairman of LASUBEB, commended the agency’s efforts in enforcing setbacks compliance in line with the State’s environmental plan and its commitment to the actualisation of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S agenda during a meeting held with the management of LASPEMA in his office in Maryland, Ikeja.

He observed that violations of setbacks and incidental open spaces have become disturbing, and he added that the Board frowns upon the illegal act, particularly near schools in the state. The Executive Chairman announced that state-wide operations to oust illegal informal operators from the academic environment would commence shortly.

Alawiye-King stressed that the Board would no longer accept the misuse of setbacks in schools and the indiscriminate construction of shanties on open spaces, noting that such actions would hamper teaching and learning in the academic setting.

Tpl. Daisi Oso, the General Manager of LASPEMA, indicated in his remarks that all sorts of criminal activity occur on setbacks and incidental open places, posing a persistent threat to the safety of students and teachers in the learning environment.

Oso claimed that the partnership will produce a model for landscaping and deploying innovative paints on school walls to improve the aesthetics and create a secure atmosphere with the installation of closed circuit television on setbacks.

At the conclusion of the strategic meeting, a five-person committee comprised of LASPEMA and LASUBEB representatives was tasked with establishing a model to facilitate synergy with other relevant State Government MDAs.
