Lagos State Health Service Commission Chair Dr. Atinuke Onayiga praised Dr. Saliu Oseni

The recently appointed Medical Director/CEO, Dr. Saliu Oseni, has been praised for the transformation taking place at the facility despite the management’s challenges by the Chairman of the Lagos State Health Service Commission, Dr. Atinuke Onayiga, who recently paid a visit to the Somolu General Hospital.

During the inspection tour of the facility’s temporary location, Dr. Onayiga spoke and expressed confidence that additional changes are imminent given the past performance and recent innovations already implemented as well as the outstanding leadership qualities that the Medical Director has so far displayed.

The inspection tour, according to her, was in keeping with the Commission’s mandate to oversee the operations of all public health facilities, evaluate the provision of high-quality healthcare to community members, and determine the level of development and progress at the hospital while motivating staff members to keep providing high-quality service to patients.

In his remarks, Commissioner I of the HSC, Dr. Olumuyiwa Solanke, praised the Medical Director’s efforts to improve employee welfare since taking office and emphasized that employee welfare is the cornerstone of any organization’s desired success.

Dr. Mobolaji Olukoya, Commissioner II, HSC, commended Dr. Oseni for getting started right away and upholding the title of “Most Hardworking Consultant” bestowed upon him a number of years prior, asserting that as a union member, he has always exhibited the valuable character of listening and dialoguing to resolve lingering issues.

Dr. Benjamin Eniayewun, the Permanent Secretary of HSC, praised the Medical Director, the management group, and the staff for their modest accomplishments thus far despite the facility’s many difficulties.

In his own words: “I commend the employees and management’s efforts to maintain the hospital despite enormous obstacles. We are pleased with your most recent results and wish you continued success.

Dr. Oseni, the Medical Director/CEO of Somolu GH, stated earlier in his welcome address that upon taking over his duties 24 days ago, he assessed the situation on the ground and determined that some departments, such as surgery, paediatrics, and medicine, needed to be separated to create a better-structured General Hospital.

He also stated that the hospital has begun to operate clinics for all types of surgery, with the first round of operations having just recently taken place. He emphasized that plans are still in the works to address the management’s current challenges, which include a lack of personnel and space as well as issues with electricity, among other things.

Oseni added that an improved welfare package is also being worked out to recognize the commitment of the workforce. He expressed satisfaction, however, that the two mini-projects that were started a week ago are almost finished and will clear the clogged waiting area and Antenatal clinic.

Members of the Lagos State Health Service Commission similarly visited Ebute-Metta General Hospital as part of their monitoring activities to evaluate the hospital’s level of advancement and development.

Speaking during the visit, the chairman of the commission, Dr. Atinuke Onayiga, praised the staff for their commitment to duty and dedication despite the facility’s ongoing rehabilitation work. He also recognized their contributions to the growth and progress of Lagos State, particularly in the health sector.
