Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Dr Naledi Pandor to co-chair the Second Session of South Africa – Uganda Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC)

The Second Session of the South Africa-Uganda Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC), which will be held on July 11–12, 2022, will be co-chaired by Dr. Naledi Pandor, the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, and Hon. General Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, the Ugandan Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The JCC’s First Session was held in South Africa in 2012.

The JCC meeting’s main goals will be to consolidate political, economic, and social cooperation, strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations, and monitor the implementation of signed agreements and memorandums of understanding. It will also look into potential new areas of economic, trade, and investment cooperation, including potential joint ventures and collaborative projects between the two nations.

The meeting will also give the two leaders a chance to talk about matters of shared interest and concern, particularly those pertaining to peace, security, and development on the continent in order to advance the African Union’s Agenda 2063. Lastly, the meeting will strengthen the two nations’ strategic cooperation on the continent in order to raise Africa’s voice and its call for the reform of multilateral institutions, particularly the United Nations Security Council.

Historical ties between South Africa and Uganda go back to the fight against colonialism and apartheid. In the late 1980s, Uganda hosted and trained South African anti-apartheid activists and liberation warriors. Since 1994, South Africa and Uganda’s political and economic ties have improved.
