KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Premier, Sihle Zikalala suffers another blow after he fails to make it to the ANC’s Provincial Executive Committee (PEC)

Sihle Zikalala, the premier of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), has suffered yet another setback after being rejected from the ANC’s Provincial Executive Committee (PEC).

Following the elective conference that began on Friday at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban and saw Siboniso Duma gain the position of ANC KZN Provincial Chairperson, more PEC members were nominated on Sunday, July 24.

Zikalala is surprisingly the only candidate from his slate who was rejected from the PEC. Mdumiseni Ntuli, the outgoing provincial secretary, Nontembeko Boyce, Jomo Sibiya, and Kwazi Mshengu attended the PEC.

Nomusa Dube-Ncube, who fell short of the requirement to run for chairperson, joined the PEC along with Mxolisi Kaunda, mayor of eThekwini Municipality.

Here is the new ANC KZN leadership; noticeably, the only woman is the KZN Health MEC:

  • Chairperson – Siboniso Duma
  • Deputy Chairperson – Nomagugu Simelane
  • Secretary – Bheki Mtolo
  • Deputy Secretary – Sipho Hlomuka
  • Treasurer –  Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba

The ANC KZN PEC members are: Peggy Nkonyeni, Mdumiseni Ntuli, Nomusa Dube-Ncube, Nonhlanhla Khoza, Nhlakanipho Ntombela, Super Zuma, Nomakiki Majola, Nobuhle Nkabane, Bheki Ntuli, Nolubabalo Mthembu, Ndodephethe Mthethwa, Sizophila Mkhize, Mafika Mndebele, Khonza Ngidi, Jomo Sibiya, Celiwe Madlopha, Sbongile Khathi, Nontembeko Boyce, Makhosi Zungu, Londolo Zungu, Vincent Madoda “Masenti” Myeni, Kwazi Mshengu, Mxolisi Kaunda, Mbali Frazer, Bongi Moloi, Amanda Bani, Mzi Zuma, Zinhle Cele and Tholi Gwala.

Many people were not surprised by these outcomes because delegates made it obvious on Friday that they no longer wanted to be led by Zikalala as they sang “Phuma Sihle, Phuma.” It is also no secret that many ANC members in KZN are still upset about how Zikalala treated the late president Jacob Zuma while he was incarcerated.
