Kellen Moore was hired as the Chargers’ offensive coordinator following the Cowboys’ firing

Kellen Moore’s unemployment was brief.

Multiple rumors indicate that the former Cowboys offensive coordinator will take the same position with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Moore and the Cowboys announced their separation on Sunday, with head coach Mike McCarthy taking over play-calling duties in Dallas. Less than twenty-four hours later, the 34-year-old coordinator secured a job with another playoff club — and potentially gets an even brighter young star quarterback in Justin Herbert to work with.

The Chargers fired offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi following a disastrous wild-card playoff defeat to the Jaguars in which Los Angeles lost a 27-0 lead. Throughout his two-year time with the Bolts, Lombardi was also criticized for being too conservative; Herbert’s intended air yards per throw attempt ranked 31st in the NFL in 2022, behind only Daniel Jones and Matt Ryan.

Moore, who had served as offensive coordinator for the Cowboys since 2019, is anything but. Prescott ranked tenth in the same metric in 2018 and sixth in 2019, his previous totally healthy season.

Moore had interviewed for the position of head coach of the Panthers, but it ultimately went to former Colts head coach Frank Reich.
