Kaizer Chiefs: These THREE players are OVERRATED! [OPINION]

Chiefs have not quite reached the heights of 2015 when they achieved the double under Stuart Baxter.

There are several reasons for this but one of these is the amount of players who are just not producing the goods in the black and gold of Amakhosi. This article takes a look at three players who have not been consistent enough or produced the quality needed to be a big-name at the club.

It appears their name is bigger then their form and what is expected of them…

THREE OVERRATED AMAKHOSI PLAYERS

1) SAMIR NURKOVIC

The Serbian striker has failed to meet expectations placed upon him.

Nurkovic earns R950 000 a month – the second-highest in the PSL. Yet, he has failed to find consistency in front of goal, it appears he was a one hit wonder for Chiefs. He has scored one goal in 10 appearances this season, that is simply unacceptable as a striker earning almost a million a month!

Last season he scored three times in 21 games. Amakhosi need a striker capable of producing double-figures every season if they are to be a competitive driving force in the DStv Premiership and domestic cup football.

2) ERIC MATHOHO

Mathoho is no doubt an Amakhosi legend. However, in recent seasons he has failed to reach the standards we once saw.

This past season we saw more costly errors than ever before, with several mistakes resulting in goals. He is no longer the consistent and trustworthy centre back we became accustomed to at Naturena. There is no doubt that he will add tremendous value to the side with his leadership and experience.

However, as a player he appears to have lost his touch. It is time for the likes of Njabulo Ncgobo and Austin Dube to be given a chance.

3) DANIEL AKPEYI

Their was a time where Akpeyi was Amakhosi’s number one goalkeeper for the bulk of the season.

Preferred to Itumeleng Khune, Bruce Bvuma and Brandon Peterson in-goal. He is a very talented keeper but he is inconsistent and has not done nearly enough to validate keeping Bafana Bafana legend Khune out as well as the rest of the quality keepers.

Bvuma is the back-up to Bafana captain Ronwen Williams and he offers more in terms of versatility and sharper reflexes. Akpeyi is a good goalkeeper but he is not good enough to keep these men out for as long as he did. He did not prove me wrong when given a whole season to do so.

Who do you believe is overrated and not good enough for Kaizer Chiefs?
