Kaizer Chiefs Reserves ready to take on Stellebosch FC Reserves in the 2022 final of the DStv Diski Shield.

The 2022 DStv Diski Shield final between Kaizer Chiefs Reserves and Stellebosch FC Reserves will take place this Saturday at Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammarsdale, KwaZulu-Natal.

In a thrilling match against Mamelodi Sundowns Reserves last Saturday, goals from Reserves captain Mduduzi Shabalala and Wandile Duba helped the young Amakhosi team advance to the final.

In contrast, Stellies defeated Chippa United Reserves by a goal to nil to go to the championship game.

North of Pretoria, in Soshanguve, Giant Stadium hosted both semifinal games.

Vela Khumalo, the mentor of the Chiefs Reserves, thinks they have succeeded in their goal of reaching the Diski Shield final this year.

According to Khumalo, “the game on Saturday will not be simple because we are playing a highly determined Stellenbosch club that won the 2021/22 DDC season.

“They also have lads with experience, some of whom have played in the Premiership for the senior squad.

Although it will be difficult, our boys are equally driven and enthusiastic since they have demonstrated their desire to win this trophy.

The majority of the boys’ training regimen has changed, according to Khumalo, as a result of the schools’ reopening earlier this week.

Since the majority of our lads are still in school and are teenagers, it has been a difficult week.

The young men will battle like soldiers, says Khumalo, “but we have had to adapt training schedules and make sure we combine football and school activities.

This is not the challenge our opponents have.

Amakhosi has picked Naturena Primary, a nearby school, as its charity because the competition demands that prizes be donated to a good cause.

“The act is commendable since it instills in the young boys a spirit of giving from a young age.

It won’t be simple, but we’ll work hard to make sure we battle for the most of what’s available,” says Khumalo.

The winning team will take home R200 000, the runner-up R150 000, and the third-place team will earn R100 000 for their chosen charity.

On Saturday, July 23, the 2022 Diski Shield final between Kaizer Chiefs Reserves and Stellenbosch will be place at Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammarsdale, KwaZulu Natal.

The game will begin at 13:00.

Tickets will be available at the stadium, and admission is free.

The games will be broadcast live on PSL Channel 202 of SuperSport.

The four junior Kaizer Chiefs teams will travel to Dooronkop Students FC in Soweto on Sunday as part of the Gauteng Development League Youth Cup.

On Sunday, the GDL Youth Cup group stage matches will be played at Fiat Grounds in Meadowlands, Soweto.

The under-13s and under-15s will compete first at 9:00 and 10:30, respectively.

The under-17s will play after these matches at 12:00, and the under-19s will wrap up the day at 13:30.
