The Orlando Pirates Reserves will face their Mamelodi Sundowns counterparts in the DStv Diski Shield, which returns after an exciting edition of the DStv Diski Championship (DDC) in the previous season.
The cup competition returns to the South African football calendar after a brief absence, as the eight teams that finished in the top half of the DDC in the 2021/22 season square off for another piece of silverware.
The tournament begins with quarter-final matches, with the Bucs Reserves hosting the young Brazilians in their first game. The Bucs Reserves finished third in the previous season, while their opponents finished seventh.
The unseeded quarter-final draw on Wednesday afternoon promised another thrilling contest after 10 goals were evenly shared in the two league matches between the two sides, with the Bucs claiming a 3-2 win at Lucas Moripe Stadium before the Tshwane outfit exacted revenge with an identical score line months later.
This will be the first meeting between Pirates and Sundowns at this level of knockout football, and the League will confirm the tournament’s intricate details, including match venues, dates, and kick-off times, at a later stage.
