Conrad Iyayi, a 46-year-old man, has confessed to murdering his wife, Kathryn Harris, also known as Katy Harris, during the second day of his trial at Derby Crown Court.
Previously, he had already admitted to manslaughter.
The shocking incident occurred in the early hours of February 6, the previous year, at their residence in Oak Crescent, Littleover, Derby.

On Wednesday, during the trial, Conrad Iyayi made a startling revelation by admitting to murdering his wife.
He revealed that he had stabbed her seven times in the chest.
His defense barrister, Amjad Malik KC, informed the court of Iyayi’s decision, stating that he had discussed it with his client, and Iyayi wished to plead guilty to the charge of murder.

In the course of the trial, the court heard two chilling 999 calls Conrad Iyayi made to the police shortly before 7.30 am on February 6, the year before.
In the first call, he urgently requested the police, saying, “Just get the police here straight away.
Get the police here, I have killed somebody.”
When asked who he had killed, Iyayi responded, “My wife.”
Following his arrest, Iyayi provided a prepared statement to the police, explaining that he had ingested what he believed was methadone bought from the dark web after 10.30 pm on February 5.
However, he later realized it was not what he thought, leading to hallucinations and a terrifying experience.
The Sentencing:
Conrad Iyayi will face sentencing at the same court on August 18.
The judge, Shaun Smith KC, expressed understanding of the difficulty defendants face when admitting to such severe crimes, especially when it involves the intention to kill.
