James Corden asserts he was almost cast in “The Whale” prior to Brendan Fraser’s Golden Globe-nominated performance.
Originally, the “Cats” star was slated to play Charlie in Darren Aronofsky’s picture, which was to be directed by another director.
“I was going to play that role, and Tom Ford was going to direct,” Corden told Deadline during a Q&A for his upcoming Amazon Prime comedy “Mammals.”
The presenter of “The Late Late Show” also said that it did not occur because Ford desired greater control over the picture.
But Corden, 44, feared he was “too young” to do the role justice in comparison to Fraser, 54.

In addition, the comedian and actor said that George Clooney was attached to the project at one point, but only if a 600-pound actor could be found to play the position.
Fraser donned a fat suit for the part, which drew condemnation from reviewers and “fatphobia” accusations.

His makeover created controversy during autumn previews, and Aronofsky defended the usage of the fat suit by stating that the uproar “makes no sense.”
In the meantime, Deadline critic Pete Hammond stated that he validated Corden’s account: “When I recently spoke with Aronofsky, I casually asked him about what Corden had told me, and he confirmed everything.”

Fraser was nominated for a Golden Globe in December for his portrayal, but he has pledged not to attend the celebration organized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association because its former president reportedly abused him sexually in 2003.
The film marked Fraser’s return to Hollywood following a depression-induced hiatus. His performance got a number of standing ovations at film festivals, including in Toronto, London, and Venice.
