Brendan Fraser experienced “a feeling of vertigo” when he removed his fat suit during filming “The Whale.”
Fraser recalled acting in the bulky outfit during a press appearance at the Venice Film Festival.
He stated that he now “appreciates” persons who are “obese.”

When Brendan Fraser removed his 300-pound fat suit during filming “The Whale,” he felt “a sensation of vertigo,” he says.
Fraser portrays Charlie, a 600-pound man attempting to mend his relationship with his adolescent daughter, in the upcoming film (Sadie Sink). Depending on the scenario, director Darren Aronofsky told Vanity Fair that Fraser carried an additional 50 to 300 pounds with his prosthetic outfit throughout filming.
During a press conference for the film at the Venice Film Festival, Fraser reportedly stated that the film offered him “appreciation” for persons with obesity.
Fraser stated, “I find it poetic that the anguish he suffers is visible in his physical weight.” “I had to learn an entirely new way to move. I developed muscles I was unaware I had. When all the equipment were removed at the end of the day, I experienced dizziness, precisely as one would feel when getting off a boat into the shore in Venice — that undulating sensation.”

The actor, 53 years old, continued: “And I say this because he gave me an appreciation for individuals with similar bodies, as I discovered that it takes a physically and mentally formidable individual to inhabit such a body. And I believe that to be Charlie as well.”
Fraser previously told Vanity Fair that it was also uncomfortable to wear the fat costume.
“The torso piece was practically a straight jacket, with sleeves that were painted by hand to resemble human skin, right down to the hand-punched hair,” said Fraser.
The opening of “The Whale” at the Venice Film Festival on Sunday was met with a six-minute standing ovation.
Ramin Setoodeh, co-editor-in-chief of Variety, reported that Fraser “sobbed” amid the clapping.
