Irish Grinstead’s Passing: A Heartfelt Farewell to an R&B Icon

The music world is in mourning following the tragic loss of Irish Grinstead, a pivotal member of the renowned R&B girl group 702.

Known for their iconic hit “Where My Girls At,” Irish’s untimely passing at the age of 43 has left a void in the industry.

The announcement of her death came through a heartfelt Instagram post by her sister and fellow 702 member, LeMisha Grinstead.

While the cause of her death remains undisclosed, it’s known that Irish had been battling serious medical issues, leading her to take a hiatus from the group in December 2022.

702’s Rise to Fame: Irish Grinstead’s Musical Journey

Irish Grinstead’s journey in the music industry began alongside her twin sister, Orish Grinstead, and Kameelah Williams.

Together, they formed 702, a group proudly representing their Las Vegas roots, as reflected in their name derived from the city’s area code.

The late ’90s saw the trio rise to fame, with their debut album, “No Doubt,” released in 1996.

Their success was further propelled by the contributions of the legendary Missy Elliott. However, it was their 1999 single “Where My Girls At?” from their self-titled sophomore album that etched their place in R&B history, reaching No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100.

702’s Musical Journey: From Hits to Changes

The group’s musical journey included the release of another album, “Star,” and contributions to soundtracks such as “Pootie Tang” and “Good Burger.”

Over the years, 702 underwent changes, with members like Amelia Cruz, Cree Le’More, and Tiffany Villarreal joining their ranks.

Although the group disbanded in the mid-2000s, they reunited in 2017, marking their return with a performance at the Soul Train Music Awards.

Their enduring bond was also showcased in the reality show “BET Presents: The Encore.”
