Investigation is currently going on over the sudden death of Soldier Sophie Madden

Police are probing the tragic death of a female soldier, who was remembered for her “resilience and professionalism” by her teammates.

Soldier Sophie Madden, 23, perished in a Ministry of Defence building in Folkestone, Kent, on June 10th.

The 23-year-old was a gunner in the Royal Horse Artillery’s 3rd Regiment, headquartered in Albemarle Barracks, Northumberland.

Kent Police are presently investigating her death.
Sophie was pronounced dead at the scene 11 days ago, although authorities concluded that her death was not suspicious.

‘It is with great regret that the Regiment must announce the loss of Gunner Sophie Madden on 10 June 2022, aged 23.’ wrote the 3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery in a tribute to her. Gunner Madden was an important member of the RHA’s D Battery.

‘Her fortitude and professionalism set an example for us all, and her legacy will carry on here and across the Gunner family.’ Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, and we respectfully request that they be allowed privacy during this terrible time.’

‘It is with sadness that we confirm the death of Gunner Sophie Madden, 3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery, on 10th June 2022 in Folkestone,’ an Army statement stated.

Because her death is under investigation, it would be improper to make any additional statements. At this tragic time, our prayers are with Gunner Madden’s family and friends, and we respectfully request that their privacy be respected.’

‘Kent Police were summoned to a Ministry of Defence building in Folkestone at 9.35 a.m. on Friday 10 June 2022 after the death of a woman was discovered,’ a Kent Police spokesperson said.

‘Officers and South East Coast Ambulance Service were dispatched, and the woman was pronounced dead on the scene.’

‘The death is not being investigated as suspicious, and a report for the coroner will be prepared.’
