The bandage approach is the most frequently encountered do-it-yourself strategy on the internet.

You are not required to apply a bandage; a scarf would suffice.

Begin by tying an Ace bandage around the chest of your dog. Use a narrow bandage on a small dog and a wide bandage on a large dog.

Bring the bandage ends upward and cross them over the shoulders of your dog. Cross the bandage across the top of your dog’s shoulder blades and then beneath his stomach.

Lastly, knot the loose ends away from the spine above the lower back. You want the pressure to feel like a warm embrace – snug but not confining.

Although the Animals Protection Act specifies that “it is unlawful for any human to frighten an animal,” thousands of lost and abandoned, bewildered, and often critically injured animals wind up at the SPCA each year.

According to the Cape of Good Hope SPCA, the Firearms and Explosives Ordinance prohibits children under the age of 16 from using or purchasing pyrotechnics, and it is also prohibited to use or sell fireworks without a valid authorization.

Here are some tips for protecting your dogs from fireworks:

Ensure that all animals have identity, preferably a microchip or at the at least a dog tag, as it will be far more difficult to reunite lost pets with their owners if they lack identification.

Stay with your dogs at home.

Bring your pets inside and provide them with access to a secure space; create a little den with blankets, pillows, and their favorite toy.
By drawing the curtains and playing relaxing music, you can attempt to block out any ambient sounds.

Place around them familiar and comfortable objects.

Feed your pets a well-balanced dinner; this will likely induce slumber.

Provide them with something to chew, such as a bone or catnip toys.

Consult your veterinarian if you feel your pet will have a negative reaction to fireworks; he or she may prescribe a sedative to assist them cope.
