Hosea Chanchez’s arrival in Los Angeles was a difficult one. At 17, he left school and drove across the country in his Mitsubishi Eclipse with his cousin to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. However, his housing plans fell through, and he ended up staying with a young woman who was dating her drug dealer.
The next day, the drug dealer stole all his belongings and money, leaving him with nothing. With nowhere to go, he slept in his car in a Walmart parking lot and ate fast food to survive.
Despite the difficult circumstances, Hosea did not give up on his dream. He was motivated by the recent loss of his grandmother and inspired by his mother’s persistence and work ethic. Eventually, he met a man named Jerome, who took him under his wing and provided him with a place to live.
With Jerome’s help, Hosea was able to get to where he needed to be and landed the role of Malik Wright on the early aughts show “Girlfriends,” its spinoff, “The Game,” and its recent revival on Paramount+. He also starred in the sports drama “All American” and launched “The Good Fellas,” a talk show focused on black men’s mental health.
Hosea’s success did not come without challenges, however. He had repressed a traumatic experience from his childhood, but it resurfaced years later, causing him to spiral into depression. He eventually turned the experience into a one-man show, “Good Mourning,” which prompted him to dig deeper than ever before and led to his newest project.
Despite the bumps along the way, Hosea is grateful for his journey and the way his dreams came true. He still has a few items left on his career bucket list, including working with Denzel Washington, but he remains motivated and grateful for the opportunities that have come his way.
