Homeless man hits 24-year-old LA woman with garden shears

A homeless man in Los Angeles last week attacked a 24-year-old woman in the head with a pair of gardening shears, inflicting brain damage.

On October 10, when Kyli Watts was strolling down the street, Jonathan Cole, 30, approached her and fatally stabbed her in the head with a pair of shears.

Watts was able to leave the area and go to a coffee shop nearby where she could phone her mother, a mental health nurse in North Carolina, for assistance. According to friends, she had four-inch blades lodged in her brain that needed to be medically removed.

According to KTLA, she managed to escape the horrific assault but is currently being treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Watts has been cautioned that the stabbing may leave her with long-term problems with her vision and balance. Weeks before the incident, she lost her job in tech recruitment; she also lacks health insurance.

Kyli will be hospitalized for at least another week, therefore a GoFundMe has been created to assist her.

Cole, who the police said has no permanent residence, was detained. He might be charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.

Amy Watts, Watts’ mother, claimed that while Cole caused her daughter’s traumatic brain damage, she is unhappy about the incident but not angry with him.

The mental nurse said, “There is no animosity, hate, or nasty sentiments against this individual.” We’ve been caring for some people with serious mental illnesses as foster parents for 15 years. She is aware that this individual is very ill.

A “social and structural failure” for the mentally ill led to the assault on her daughter and others in cities around the US, Amy said.

After stabbing Watts, Cole, according to the police, ran into a man and a woman at a bus stop. Cole flung an entire jar of pickles at the woman, hitting her in the shoulder, when she refused to give him her lighter.

The man then pursued Cole to a local grocery store, where police apprehended him.

According to authorities, both incidents were “random and entirely unprovoked.”

Because the situation will only worsen, Amy stated, “We as a society must examine this issue and choose what comes next.”

In the previous year, killings increased by 7% in Los Angeles while felony assaults increased by 19.6% in New York City.

George Gascon, the DA of Los Angeles, has come under criticism for his “soft on crime” tactics, which many claim are making the city’s crime issue worse.

As a consequence, he could be called back.
