Heather Knight accuses India of lying over ‘Mankad’

Heather Knight, captain of the England women’s team, has accused India of “lying” about giving Charlie Dean warnings prior to her notorious “Mankad” run-out in the third one-day international between the two nations.

Saturday, while the home team was pursuing victory at Lord’s, India spinner Deepti Sharma dismissed Dean for being way out of her ground.

Under cricket’s rules, it is permissible to run out a non-striker who is backing up, although it has long been seen as unsportsmanlike by many players.

The off-spinner remarked upon the team’s arrival in Kolkata, “That was our strategy, as she had been doing it regularly and we had warned them.”

“We told the umpires as well. Still, she was nearby, so there was nothing we could do. Everything was done in accordance with the regulations and norms.”

In response to Deepti’s tweets, Knight recognized that Dean was properly terminated but stated, “No warnings were sent.

She stated, “They are not required, so it has not made the dismissal any less valid.”

India should not feel compelled to lie about warnings if they are comfortable with the decision to effect the run-out.

The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), the keeper of cricket’s laws, has stated that the third ODI was “fully officiated.”

“MCC’s instruction to non-strikers is to stay in their ground until they see the ball leave the bowler’s hand,” the organization stated in a statement.

Then dismissals like the one observed yesterday cannot occur.

“Yesterday’s odd conclusion to a thrilling game was correctly officiated and should not be regarded anything more.”
