According to a Mail on Sunday excerpt from Katie Nicholl’s upcoming book “The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth’s Legacy and the Future of the Crown,” Queen Elizabeth II “had misgivings” about Meghan’s wedding dress, despite its beauty.
“The Queen was astonished that Meghan wore white on her wedding day,” an unidentified insider told Nicholl for the book, given that this was not Meghan’s first marriage.
From 2011 until 2013, Meghan was married to producer Trevor Engelson.
“Perhaps it’s a generational thing, but she believes that if you’ve been married previously, you should wear off-white on your wedding day, as did the Duchess of Cornwall,” the source added.

Camilla has worn her civil ceremony gown multiple times in the years after her marriage to the king.
The weeks leading up to Harry and Meghan’s wedding were tense for the royal family, according to Nicholl’s book, which references the fight between Meghan and Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, over Princess Charlotte’s flower girl attire.
Lady Elizabeth Anson, the late cousin of the Queen, told Nicholl that Prince Harry “shouted” at Angela Kelly, the Queen’s royal dresser, in the days preceding his and Meghan’s wedding.
He exclaimed, “What Meghan wants, Meghan gets!” as Anson told Nicholl, prompting the Queen to give him a “severe reprimand.”
