Gerard Butler mourns Pop Idol star Darius in Glasgow

Pop Idol contestant Darius was put to rest during a funeral in Glasgow, where actor and friend Gerard Butler was present.

On August 11, the musician, 41, was discovered unconscious in a room of an apartment in Minnesota.

A small group of mourners, numbering around 100, came to pay their respects to Darius as they marched by as a lone piper played the hymn Caledonia.

According to the Sun, close friend Gerard Butler was among those who said farewell to the celebrity during the ceremony in Glasgow.

The 52-year-old Hollywood actor previously praised his fellow Scot, referring to him as a “genuine brother in arms.”

My thoughts and love are with his great parents, Avril and Booth, and his two bright brothers, Aria and Cyrus, he continued.

Those who were fortunate enough to spend more than a few minutes with Darius were profoundly impacted by his contagious laugh and unbridled love for life.

Few people could resist his genuine warmth and booming voice, nor would they want to! He was always prepared with a grin and a hug. He was an actor with enormous presence, a singer whose voice penetrated your soul, and an outstanding talent.

But most importantly, he possessed a lion’s heart. He could instantly light up a room with an energy that was more powerful and brighter than the sun.

Omid Djalili, a British comedian, also paid homage to the late musician today in a heartfelt letter posted online.

Funeral for Darius Campbell Danesh was held today in Bearsden, Glasgow, he wrote. A beautiful and accomplished guy who passed away much too soon.

People were often surprised by what a real gentleman he was. Bless his soul, O Lord. Peace be with you, my brother.
