Georgia Couple Arrested for Drunken Beach Nap While Children Run Wild

A Georgia couple, Alyssia Langley, 27, and Timothy Stephens, 27, faced arrest after authorities found them intoxicated and passed out on a Florida beach while their two young children roamed unsupervised.

Charges and Arrest

The couple was charged with child neglect, with Stephens facing additional charges for attempting to flee from law enforcement and possessing alcoholic beverages on the beach.

Encounter with Deputies

Deputies from the Volusia County Sheriff’s office approached the couple on the beach, where they were unconscious and sunburned.

Bodycam footage captured the deputies’ efforts to wake them, which reportedly took multiple attempts.

Discovery of Unsupervised Children

Upon regaining consciousness, Langley and Stephens were questioned about the whereabouts of their children, aged 5 and 7, to which they had no immediate answer.

The children were later found unsupervised but unharmed in the pool area.

Bodycam Footage and Evidence

The bodycam footage revealed the deputies’ interactions with the couple and the discovery of alcohol containers in their vicinity.

An open beer can was found near Stephens, along with empty cans and bottles nearby.

Escalation and Arrest

During the encounter, Langley expressed frustration and made disparaging remarks towards law enforcement.

When instructed to get into the police vehicle, Stephens attempted to flee but was apprehended by deputies after a short chase.

Law Enforcement’s Response

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood expressed dismay at the couple’s behavior, emphasizing the seriousness of their neglectful actions and the potential harm to their children.

He criticized their lack of responsibility and underscored the importance of proper guardianship.

The incident underscores the importance of responsible parenting and the consequences of neglectful behavior, especially in situations involving the safety and well-being of young children.

Law enforcement’s swift response highlights the seriousness with which such cases are treated and the priority placed on protecting vulnerable individuals.
