Jealous woman who violently smashed her friend’s head in drunken attack is arrested

In a jealous frenzy, a lady repeatedly’smashed’ her friend’s head against the steps within a block of apartments. She was sentenced to 16 months in prison.

In a rage about text messages the woman had exchanged with Hopkins’ boyfriend, Zoe Hopkins, 34, from Carmarthen, south Wales, struck out at her victim.

Hopkins and her victim were known to each other, prosecutor Megan Jones told Swansea Crown Court today.

When the defendant got home on February 15, she was inebriated and stood outside her friend’s Carmarthen flat.

Hopkins followed the woman into the block’s communal area, when he seized her from behind, threw her to the floor, and repeatedly’smashed’ her head against the steps.

Hopkins grabbed the woman’s hair, yanked her head downwards, and then booted her in the face, accusing her of texting her lover.

The 28-year-old victim managed to flee and rushed to a nearby flat, where the cops were summoned.

Hopkins said ‘no comment’ to all queries when she was arrested and questioned.

The victim suffered scratches and bruises but did not seek medical attention. In an impact statement read to the court, she stated that she was terrified by the assault, which had exacerbated her anxiety.

When Hopkins appeared in court for sentencing, she had already pled guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm.
